$5 21+ Swampcandy was put on The Workshop Porch Stage at Floydfest 2014 by Ferrum College and performed all four days at the festival. This was not only an opportunity to perform in front of thousands of people there to see such acts as Lauren Hill, Ben Harper, Buddy Guy, Ziggy Marley, JJ Grey & Mofro, and Thievery Corporation, just to name a few, they were also in competition with 37 other preforming bands in the Floydfest On The Rise competition. The festival attendees cast their ballots at the the merch tent and Swampcandy was chosen as this years winner. Swampcandy is the aggressive Stomping Mississippi Blues and Roots influenced duo. They preform around 250 gigs a year at venues, festivals and coffee houses around the U.S. and U.K. — They have also received an award as “Best Opening Act 2014″ at the #1 venue in the world under 500 seats, The Rams Head On Stage — Ruben Dobbs and the incredible upright bass player / kick drummer, Joey Mitchell, to become a duo that has no lack of rhythm or stage presence! Swampcandy tours relentlessly. When not touring they are working on new material and gigging in the Mid Atlantic Region. Their music is raw and yet subtle. They have a sound that a band can only achieve after performing over 1000 gigs.

Meat Fight (n): a Texas barbecue competition benefitting the National MS Society. In 2010, we started Meat Fight® with a few friends in our backyard. Our Texas barbecue competition has four categories: brisket, pulled pork, sausage and Wild Card (a mystery meat that's revealed close to competition time). In 2012, we brought the meats to the masses for the first time. Dallas chefs competed for barbecue glory, and they were judged by the best barbecue minds in best barbecue state. We ate meat, we drank whiskey, and we raised $20,000 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. In 2013, we demolished that number and raised $50,000. We even had Nick Offerman as a special guest. And this year, with the help of our sponsors and your generous donations, we’ll raise even more.
